'Scent of a Woman' School

The Gothic campus of this prestigious all-girls prep school (Jane Fonda is one alumnus) was the site of the fictional Baird School for Al Pacino's Oscar-winning turn in 'Scent of a Woman.' (In the movie, it's an all-boys school.) Prep-schooler Charlie Simms (Chris O'Donnell) travels to New York to accompany the irascible Lt. Col. Frank Slade, a blind Army retiree.

'Tootsie' Bar

The historic Hurley Mountain Inn, which dates to the early 1800s, was the site of the bar scene in Dustin Hoffman's classic cross-dressing comedy. In real life the Hurley was known as a rough-and-tumble place until a state police barracks was erected nearby; now it's family-friendly. The joint's St. Patrick's Day celebration is the stuff of legend, with the owners boasting of serving over 12,000 pounds of corned beef.

'Crocodile Dundee II' Mansion

Eagle's Nest, the estate home on the sprawling grounds of what is now the Vanderbilt Museum on Long Island, served as a drug lord's fictional mansion in the 1988 'Crocodile Dundee' sequel. The complex now features a natural history museum and a planetarium -- at the very least, the museum should exhibit many of the indigenous species the Aussie hero has conquered Down Under.

'Hairspray' High School

Tracy Turnblad gets sent to the principal's office for her teased and ratted "hair-don't" in John Waters's 1988 movie, which inspired the Broadway musical, which in turn inspired the 2007 film remake. The school scenes in the original were filmed at Baltimore's Perry Hall High School, which was also featured in the DVD version of 'Heavy Metal Parking Lot.'

'Starman' Crater

The title character in John Carpenter's 1984 sci-fi feature, played by Jeff Bridges, is a space alien who must get to Meteor Crater in remote Arizona or perish. The real crater, about 4,000 feet in diameter, sits on land now privately owned and overseen by the family of Daniel Barringer, the mining engineer who first recognized it as the remnant of a meteorite impact.
